Background
Sugar & Spice Portsmouth grew out of a series of hands-on workshops with students, architects, local artists, and community groups.
We started by exploring the city together — talking about Portsmouth’s history, its buildings, and what these places mean to the people who use them every day. Guided by the SCT crew, participants were encouraged to look closer and share their own perspectives.
From there, ideas became sketches, then models, and finally gingerbread creations. Rather than simply copying landmarks, each piece reflects a personal connection — memories, meanings, and imagination brought to life.
Along the way, people from different backgrounds came together to make, learn, and collaborate — sharing skills, stories, and new ways of seeing the city.
More than anything, this project is about connection — to each other and to the city we call home.
