Services

Based in Portsmouth’s Historical Quarter, SCT is a self-funded, not-for-profit organisation. As such, we have developed a sustainable income stream that funds the cultural and community engagement we do by offering the following paid-for services:

  • Consultancy

    • Heritage advice

    • Listed Building surveys and advice on permissions, design, construction, additions

    • Building condition surveys and reports

    • Feasibility Study, asset assessment for development options

    • Planning permission application and submission, change of use consents

    • Schedule Monument Consent (SMC) Our Conservation Professionals have the knowledge and experience to gain permission to carry out any work that would change, repair, alter or add to a scheduled monument. 

    • Funding applications support

  • Heritage Skills 

    • Training and workshops in traditional building and construction techniques and process such as those relating to retrofitting and services installation

    • Sustainable conservation, advice on natural materials, repurposed design with traditional methods  

  • Mentoring

    • Innovative 3-way mentoring model where we develop and oversee a bespoke mentoring plan for different architecture students who we then pair up with industry professionals. This is a win-win-win for students who gain invaluable insight, practising architects who need CPD hours and SCT by developing long term relationships with both established industry professionals and up-coming practitioners.

  • Meanwhile use 

    • We negotiate the use of otherwise vacant property prior to development, demolition or sale for community benefit.

    • Feasibility study for assessment of suitability as a space for a function, meanwhile spaces, curating pop up events, including temporary lighting, projector installations.

  • CPD 

    • venue for organisations offering CPD and support. 

    • Particularly relevant for architectural practices and students, however, our space in the Old Pay Office is eclectic and unique enough to inspire all. 

  •  Workshops

    • The Old Pay Office is the perfect place for any workshop and wouldn’t fail to wow, intrigue and inspire participants. Workshops might consist of new media, print making, story telling, performance - whatever works for you.

    • Hot desking for creatives on a daily basis.

 

As well as offering the above paid-for services, we have a pool of artists and professionals that we work with and who we can call upon. So, if you are looking for a more bespoke programme, let’s discuss.
